Solar Energy Solar Energy For Your Home or Business

Did you know that enough energy arrives from the sun every 24 hours to supply all of the world's energy needs for 12 years? Heat and light from the sun are abundant sources of energy that can be harnessed in a variety of ways.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are made of semiconductors that convert sunlight directly into electricity. Today's most advanced PV systems can convert up to 33 percent of the energy received from sunlight into electrical power for your home. Less sophisticated solar PV systems can still convert 12 percent of the energy they receive into electricity.

WMECo's Solar Initiatives

WMECo understands the importance of introducing renewable energy sources, like solar, for our customers, our environment and our future. That's why we are dedicated to supporting research, development and promotion of solar technologies. WMECo was the first utility in New England to receive approval from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) to move forward with our Large Scale Solar Program.
