Dig Safe

Planning a home improvement project? Perhaps adding a
swimming pool, a new fence or a deck. Or maybe digging
up some old evergreens and revitalizing your landscaping.
Before you break ground, make sure you know where all the
underground utility lines run near and around your property.
Digging even one foot in the wrong direction could cause
serious injury and even death. Massachusetts law requires
that you call 3 business days before digging.
One simple toll-free phone call (888-DIG-SAFE) can get
your project started and put your mind at ease.
Dig Safe ®,
the statewide utility notification service, will
coordinate WMECO and all other utilities in coming
to your property and marking where the underground
utilities are - at no charge to you!
Utilities will mark all the areas to avoid so
that your project can get underway without a hitch.
Each type of utility will be marked and color-coded
so you know what is where. Dig Safe will provide you
with a special permit number to confirm that you have
made the right call!
