WMECo accepts applications for grant funding
from nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations and public
groups whose efforts fall within our strategic areas
of focus listed below:
- Education
- Assist organizations that provide educational
opportunities, public school systems in distressed
cities and towns, and two- and four-year colleges.
- Civic and Community
- Job Training - Fund programs that develop
technically skilled people for existing and potential
jobs.
- Economic Development - Support local, state,
regional and national efforts to promote the economy
and create jobs in the WMECo service territory.
- Housing - Assist organizations that are renovating
and building low- and moderate-income housing with
energy conservation in mind.
- Arts and Culture
- Fund diverse art and cultural programs.
Not Eligible
The program generally will not fund organizations that
receive direct support from United Way, Community Health
Charities, or other federated funds. WMECo provides support
to these umbrella agencies through its Corporate Citizenship
initiatives. Grants are not provided for the following:
- Individuals
- Organizations located outside WMECo's service territory
and whose services do not benefit a majority of our customers.
- Corporations that do not qualify as charitable
organizations as defined by the Internal Revenue Code
- Private foundations
- Projects benefiting limited groups (religious,
fraternal, political)
- Athletic outings
- Reducing or eliminating a preexisting debt
- Conferences and seminars
- Advertising
